Post Egg Retrieval

After going through this journey I think I have even more empathy than I ever thought is possible to have. I really do feel like I have my cake and later can eat it too. Do you ever wish you could have your cake and eat it too? Egg freezing despite how it all really turns out is like eating your cake. Nothing is for certain as death and taxes. Doesn’t guarantee a child, it guarantees a chance to have a child in the future. I think some people think it is our God-given right to have children, but it is a blessing and precious miracle to bring life into this world.

I was also thankful that I had off work the following day and then into the weekend. Those 3 solid days of rest did me wonders. I probably could have done my normal activities, but it was nice to just rest instead. I would get headaches, dizzy easily, or out of breath quickly. I found that I was moving slower and not as fast as I usually did. All of this is normal. Plus I really didn’t fit back into my old clothes again yet. I didn’t care in those moments because now I could rest assure that 17 mature eggs had been safely stored away in the freezer.

What happens is your body fills up and retains fluid. Any weight you are gaining is really just water weight. So don’t be alarmed as this is normal. You want to help replenish your system so your body flushes this out. As each day passes I was starting to feel more like myself. It is a process. Just remember it took you 2 weeks to get to this level, give yourself at least 2 weeks to start feeling like you did before you started the hormones. Everyone’s body responds differently to the medications.

All in all, it was worth my effort. I was thankful I had done it. Little under a month worth of sacrifice for a lifetime opportunity seems worth it to me. I could tell I was already calmer and at peace. I was surprised in the number of friends and family that checked in on me to see how I was doing. It was nice to have all their support and encourage me that I was doing the right thing. I even had some older friends mention how they wished they would have frozen their eggs when they were my age.

Be easy on yourself. Don’t expect to bounce back the next day. Remember it took just about 2 weeks to get to this point, so give your body at least 2 more weeks to get back to normal. What do you think? Has my story helped you decide how to take charge of your future today? If so, I would love to hear about it. What is your opinion of the egg freezing journey? Will you take advantage of egg freezing technology? What are your thoughts on the process?
